The Jazz band is an organization that accents
the basic elements of performing Jazz.
The students learn the proper intonations
and techniques to playing and appreciating
Jazz and its influences on other
genres of music in today's society.
The concert band is a program that teaches the
students that aims to provide a rewarding
musical experience to young musicians
as well as expose them to the performance
opportunities that await them beyond
college, whether or not they choose to pursue music as
a career.
It provides a unique opportunity for advanced
instrumentalists to perform the chamber
orchestra repertoire of four centuries.
In addition, the orchestra class premiers many
new compositions, some by our own
students, and performs World Music from many
cultures that are not included in
the European classical tradition.
The marching band program teaches the students of the
direction of many HBCU bands
by adopting show style marching. Show style
marching allows the students to visually
show precision and techniques on the
field. Show style marching also provides
entertaining shows at half-time. The
music is derived from Jazz, R&B, R&B Soul,
Pop, and Rap to give outstanding
shows for the masses.
The G.W. Carver Marching Tigers is composed of talented musicians, has generated
a
genuine pride in the entire student body at Carver High School as a result of
their
stellar performances in the State of Alabama, Georgia and the South. Under
the
direction of Mr. Hugh Moffett and formal assistant band Lorenzo Emanuel,
they
have gave new insight on they way Carver plays music by introducing the
musicians
to "show style" marching. With high-stepping, toe driving moves
combined with
entertaining music and dance routines, Carver made its mark in
numerous Battle
of the Bands, and parades all over. Highly influenced by HBCU
bands like
Alabama State, Albany State, Southern University, Miles College, and
Texas Southern,
we have created a style that no other band can imitate.
