Course Sequence Magnet Seal Qualification Admission IMST Home

Student Qualifications:

A student will qualify for entrance into the program based on a combination of the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of Advanced Math

  • Cumulative average of 3.0 or above in all science and math courses

  • Letter of recommendation from both a science and a mathematics teacher

  • Acceptable scores on standardized tests indicating strong academic talents

  • Interview with the principal, lead teacher, or designee (if necessary)

All high school students grades 9-12, who meet the minimum admission requirements will be admitted into the program provided the total number does not exceed the maximum enrollment at each grade level. Students entering the STEM program are expected to demonstrate a high degree of interest and aptitude in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Program Requirements:

Research Requirements

Each magnet student is required to develop and complete an in-depth research project during the junior year. Students in AP Statistics and Trigonometry must also complete a Math Expo Project while enrolled in those classes.

 

Senior Seminar

During the senior year, all STEM students must present a senior seminar. This evaluated seminar must be presented in front of all STEM students and faculty.

 

Service Learning

All STEM students are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of service learning annually. Service in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are preferred.

 

Competitions

All Students are required to compete in at least one team competition annually. Every student must also compete in the Energy Awareness Competition each year.
